2020 Auto Repair Resolutions

Happy new year! The new year brings energy,
excitement, and resolutions. Probably the most popular resolutions have to do
with personal health.  Eating better,
exercising more, and maintaining your physical health should be number one. We
hope that everyone meets their new year resolution goals. But, you can have
multiple goals for 2020. We believe a good one that makes your life better by
saving time and money is keeping your vehicles well maintained. As an Omaha auto
repair shop for over 50 years, we can’t tell you how much staying on top of
your vehicle maintenance will improve your life – but we’ll try here!

Avoid Costly Auto Repairs

Not all auto repairs are avoidable. However, the
degree and cost of certain repairs can be managed with regular maintenance.
Your vehicle is like your body. If one thing is wrong, it adds stress to other parts,
weakening them until they break too. When you treat your vehicle like your body
and take a preventative maintenance approach, you can avoid bigger pain down
the road.

What is Preventative Auto Maintenance?

Preventative auto maintenance includes all of
the regular services your vehicle needs to perform at its best. Parts wear down
over time and need to be serviced or replaced to extend the life of your
vehicle. Fluids and filters need to be replaced, so your vehicle is getting
clean fuel and oil.

  • Oil & Filter Changes

Most people are aware
that they need regular oil and filter changes. Motor oil keeps your engine from
wearing out. Oil gets dirty over time and should be replaced with clean semi-synthetic
oil every 3,000-4,000 miles or with full synthetic every 5,000-6,000 miles.

  • Tire Care

All tires wear down over
time. But they wear down differently depending on their position. Getting your
tires rotated and balanced every 8-12,000 miles extends the life of your tires
because they wear down more evenly.

  • Balance and Alignment

Wheel balancing ensures the weight is distributed equally around your car’s axel. Alignment makes sure your tires are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the road. If you feel your vehicle pulling to the left or right, it needs an alignment.

  • Brakes Pads and Rotors

Brakes, like nearly
everything on your car, will wear out and need to be replaced over time.  Next time you’re getting your oil changed
have your mechanic check your brakes. Caliper replacement can be costly, so
knowing the status can help you prepare ahead of time, so you’re ready when
they need to be replaced.

  • Belts and Hoses

Belts and hoses crack
and tear. Being stranded because a belt broke can get costly. If you have to
call a tow truck to get your vehicle to a shop that adds up. Make sure your
mechanic checks your belts and hoses and replaces them before they break and
cause a big headache.
